The American Novel and Its Tradition
Published in Paperback by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (June, 1980)
Average review score:

Helpful Hawthorne criticismI bought this book to aid in the writing of a paper on Hawthorne. I have always liked literature criticism books by a single author because you can return to them as a source for other information and be able to count on the style and the type of content the author will give. The Hawthorne section in this book gives an examination of the allegorical quality of "The Scarlet Letter" as well as a good focus on the main characters and their own existence as singular representations: "Chillingworth, the probing intellect; Dimmesdale, the moral sensibility; Pearl, the unconscious or demonic poetic faculty. Hester is the fallible human reality . . .". It also points to aspects of the book such as the two intense scaffold scenes. I found Richard Chase's book to be very helpful. His criticism is not too far 'out there' like some often are. I came across other articles by him in my research and he always seems to be able to probe deeply into the hidden meanings and sort out the individualities of the characters without losing the reader. I would recommend this book because of a general familiarity with Richard Chase's work and also because I found the Hawthorne section to be extremely helpful in my own research.

The Babe Chases 60: That Fabulous 1927 Season, Home Run by Home Run
Published in Paperback by McFarland & Company (December, 1998)
Average review score:

GOOD JOB DESCRIBING THE CHASE FOR 60THE AUTHOR DOES A VERY JOB DESCRIBING BABE'S ASSULT ON 60 HOMERS IN 1927. HE GIVES US MANY FACTS ON TEAMATES, PENNANT RACE, AND BASEBALL IN GENERAL DURING THIS SEASON. ALSO SOME FACTS ON THE BABE'S LIFE ARE ALSO PRESENTED. MR ROBERTSON DOES A GREAT JOB, AND THIS IS WELL WORTH READING BY HISTORIANS AND YANKEE FANS. THE ONLY REAL NEGATIVE IS I HAD HOPED IT CONTAINED SOME PICS, BUT STILL HIGH QUALITY READING. VERY RECOMMENDED.

Bass and Bugs, Crabs and Crawlers, and the Folks who Chase Them
Published in Paperback by Siskiwit Press (October, 1997)
Average review score:

A humorous approach to the outdoors by an outdoorsman. If you have spent time in the great outdoors you will enjoy this funny approach to many of the experiences that have been filed away in your memory. Recommend even if you don't spend a lot of time outdoors. One might suspect that the humor in this book is written from a great many years of living and being a part of nature.

Builder's Guide to Cosmetic Remodeling
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (01 February, 1997)
Average review score:

could be helpfulI bought this book for my husband to read since he is doing the remodeling and renovating of our 100+ year old home. He didn't look at it, and I ended up reading it. The book is well written, and I learned a lot from it. Unfortunately I am not a contractor, so I don't get any use from the information at all. The book is meant for general building contractors who are knew to the business, or maybe want some fresh ideas on how to win a job contract. If that sounds like you, I think you may find this book useful.

Chase
Published in Unknown Binding by Random House ()

OK ThrillerThis is an early book by Dean Koontz writing as (see above). It's a pretty well-done, short and sometimes suspensefull little thriller. Cannot be called a masterpiece, but it makes for an ok read. Nice ending which wouldn't survive a normal Hollywood treatment.

The Chase Is On! (Barney's Great Adventure)
Published in Paperback by Lyrick (February, 1998)
Average review score:

Great book for 2 Year Old--even without seeing the movieWe picked up this book at Toys R Us when our daughter, then 1 1/2, spotted Barney on the cover. The book is a small paperback that is meant to be a companion to the Braney's Big Adventure Move. However, it has become a bedtime favorite for us. The book takes about 3 minutes to read and recounts the adventure of Barney and his friends as they chase all around town after a "magic egg." They finally catch the egg and it hatches Twinken, an alien that looks like a white teddy bear. Demerits for this absurd ending (although if you believe a dinosaur can talk...), and also for having a negative character, namely a snobby waiter. Barney generally is all positive, and I didn't think it was necessary to introduce a snobby person to 2 year olds. Anyway, an inexpensive, light, quick, and portable book for any preschooler.

Chase Manhattan: The WetFeet.com Insider Guide
Published in Paperback by Wet Feet Press (01 January, 2000)
Average review score:

Great resource before your Chase interviews! This booklet gives a great overview of the "inner-workings" of Chase. This is really an awesome company. The Wet Feet Guide totally helped me to prepare for a string of recent interviews with them. VERY useful information... including some great ideas re: potential interview questions (many of which I used). The only downfall: the current edition was printed prior to the merger with JP Morgan... so I had to figure out what affect that merger is having on the company via other sources. (per the grapevine, the merger is apparently affecting each business unit differently; i.e. no real impact within National Consumer Services... but significant impact in other areas). Other than that, this book is a great start-- and helped me to better understand vital info about the company -- including the Chase culture. BUY IT!!

Chase Scene
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (July, 1979)
Average review score:

My Review!Chase Scene is a "so-so" book. It has a little bit of action in it which makes it better. For example I love the part when Hugh and Tap find out that Abner (the guy they met when they were camping) is a criminal. I'm not going to tell what happens after this because I want people to read this book. It isn't the best book I've read, but it is a cool book. James Wood use a informal and funny way to write the dialogues...
